Guided Walk - Change of Date and Time
Date Added: 08/03/2014
This walk was due to take place on Saturday, 24th May but has been re-arranged and will now take place on Friday, 9th May . The time of meeting at Everton parish church was originally at 2.30pm. Please note that this will now be at 3pm
This delightful walk starts from the parish church in Everton and enters the parklands of Woodbury Hall, home of Lord and Lady Erroll. The Hall dates from the 18th century, but it was badly damaged by fire during the war whilst requisitioned by the army. After the war the Hall was redesigned by Sir Basil Spence, the famous architect of Coventry Cathedral.
After passing the house we will descend the hill at the edge of the park and then cross over agricultural fields before joining the Roman road (bridleway) We will pass the Barn, once part of Gibraltar Farm. This Barn also formed part of RAF Tempsford and was used as the holding point for SOE agents immediately before they were taken to the aircraft that were to transport them into Europe. Here agents were also supplied with their equipment, etc.
We will then ascend the hill and return to the village of Everton.
We will meet at the Parish Church in Everton 3.pm. As there is very little space near the church can you please park your cars on roads within the village.
The cost is £5.50 per person (payable on booking please)
